#NewMusicFriday || 5.19.2017

This week for #NewMusicFriday, we were inundated with new songs from artists making their solo debuts, to artists whose names have become synonymous with pop music.

My top pick has to go to Camila Cabello, formerly of girl group Fifth Harmony, who made a pretty strong solo attempt with "Crying In the Club." Sure, the track does remind us of Sia, but there's something about that "Genie In A Bottle" sample that draws us in -- and keeps us there. The video also shows us a different side of Camila -- a more vulnerable, revealing side -- that we hadn't really seen before. Camila has a unique voice, whether you love it or hate it, but with this song, I'm glad she toned it down a bit.

Another former group member who made their solo debut this week was One Direction's Liam Payne, with "Strip That Down." He's the last member of the group to release his own song, and it sounds as we expected it to. He also joins the long list of pop stars who've recently thrown the oh-so-trendy Migos on their song and has clearly gone the "urban" route. The chorus is catchy, but the shade in his "I used to be in 1D, now I'm out, free" lyric may be too painful for Directioner hearts to handle.

Bebe Rexha also dropped her new single, "The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody)," which features Lil Wayne and interpolates Whitney Houston's "Dance With Somebody." Bebe's underrated, yet is doing pop music better than most these days. Add this one to your summer playlist, after Miley's "Malibu" and Selena's "Bad Liar."

Lastly (and sort of least), after Katy Perry's disappointing release of "Bon Appetit," we were really hoping "Swish Swish" with Nicki Minaj would be the hit we'd been waiting for.  We thought the lyrics would be better, Nicki's verses would be tighter and just... yeah, hard pass (and we're not even Swifties).

Listen to these tracks above & below and let us know what you think!
